Once Again, Return of the Feed

As the sound of Mark Morrison is no doubt playing in your head right now, we swear we’re not lying to you, Instagram has listened to the people (cue the “Yes!” chant here) and has reverted to a version of the original chronological newsfeed. We say a version of because it’s not truly chronological but users will not be dealing with seeing posts from 3 days prior mixed in with new posts and possibly missing important updates. I for one and still bummed out that I missed Paige and about half of the WWE Women’s Division at the grand opening of The Saraya Store because of the old algorithm feed, but I guess things like that won’t be happening again, at least for the time being.

Throwing us into Social Media Inception, Instagram’s VP of product Kevin Weil tweeted:

“We’re working every day to improve your Instagram feed—with your feedback top of mind! We want to start talking more about what we’re changing and why. Today is our first step, focused on making the feed fresher, with newer posts closer to the top.”

According to an official release here in addition to the new old style of feed there will also be a “New Posts” button as opposed to having the screen refresh on its own leaving you wondering where that awesome picture of Becky Lynch went that you forgot to like, while being replaced by another Infinity War promo, not that more Marvel is ever a problem.

Unlike most new social media features that seemingly take forever to roll out, it looks like this Instagram change is already in #FullEffect #BayBay. Scrolling through our own IG Feed we see first 5 posts we see are from 13 minutes ago, 4 hours ago, 2 hours ago, 43 seconds ago and 17 minutes ago in that order.

Whether this is listening to the audience or a reaction to the mass exodus to, or at least promotion of, Vero that took place place just a few weeks back is up for debate, but what is not, is the importance of being timely with your content. Now, much like before, people will have the opportunity to take advantage of limited time offers you may have or engage in conversations about things happening right now, and not how sad they are that they “wish they had seen this earlier (insert sad emoji)”.
